Katrina Information Needed from NOLA Deaf Community

Hello Members of Deaf Community of Greater New Orleans,

In few days it would be 5 years that Hurricane Katrina had affected many of our lives. Three words that I have been seeing a lot on Fox 8 News this week that says remember, recover and renew. We have come a long way remembering, recovering and renewing our lives that Katrina had affected us all. Some have returned to New Orleans, some have relocated and some have passed away within past 5 years. Katrina may have blown causing a lot of damages to our homes, but Katrina could not blow away our love for Deaf Community of Greater New Orleans, our love for New Orleans, and our faith in Jesus Christ.

Barbara and I had set up list of names people that were lost when we all got scattered away and the listing helps to find the members of NOLA Deaf Community almost 5 years ago and I want to set up a listing once again but this time to find where are they now.

We would need your help to let us know where exactly they are living now and you may want to provide your contact info (it can be email address or vp #) if you would like to post it in the listing. There may be some new people that moved to New Orleans after Katrina, you are welcome to add your name or add others' names and also if we are missing some names that were here before Katrina please do send us the information. Carla Hugger will be providing assistance for Barbara and I.

Please reply to:
John Lovas at jclovaspager@gmail.com
Barbara Lovas at bblovas1@yahoo.com
Carla Hugger at CFHugger@cox.net

The listing is below for you to look at and add any necessary information.

Have a blessed day,

John Lovas, member of Deaf Community of Greater ReNew Orleans

Every year millions of healthy high-quality plants go unsold and are
destroyed.

They go to the dump,

They get plowed under,

They get burned or buried.

It's a huge waste.

They come from the very same growers that supply many of the most

famous garden catalogs. I know because I'm an avid gardener and
horticultural

photographer. I've taken a lot of the photos you see in many of those
same catalogs.

I also strongly support the sheltered workshop movement.
Hundreds-of-thousands

of workers with disabilities find meaningful jobs in workshops all across
the country.

The ongoing problem is to find work to be done.

We started this web site to help solve both problems. We find unsold

nursery stock and have it packaged by sheltered workshops.

We give away the plants to anyone who will send shipping and processing.

Free Trees and Plants.com is not a nonprofit charity. We do not ask for,

or accept, contributions or offer paid memberships. Except for shipping
and processing,

Free Trees and Plants .com is a self-supporting project.

Distribution of the free plants is on a first reserved, first served
basis.

When you make your reservation, you will get a confirmation. It will show
your

reservation number and what free plants you reserved.

All plants are shipped dormant and bare-root, just like most catalog
stock.

We will send your free plants by standard mail.

Shipping and processing covers the cost of:

digging

washing

inspection

transportation

size sorting

unit grouping

hydro dipping

packaging labor

packaging materials

labeling

addressing

postal sorting

and postage to your door.

Every step is done manually.

Shipping and processing is only $7.95 per unit. Some catalogs appear to
charge

less for shipping and handling. They include part of the cost in the price

of the plants, we can't.

Your plants are FREE. Every plant is as good as, or better than, those

you see in expensive catalogs at high prices. The only difference is

that, unless you want these plants, they may go to waste.

You get free plants. You help stop a huge waste. Workers with disabilities

get meaningful work and a paycheck. Everyone wins.

Happy planting,

http://www.freetreesandplants.com/cherylwelcome1-copy.gif

Cheryl Richter

P.S. If you aren't satisfied with your free plants we will replace them
without further

cost or send you a refund.

Government Seeks to Employ More People with Disabilities

Government Seeks to Employ More People with Disabilities

On the 20th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, President
Obama July 26, signed an executive order aimed at increasing federal hiring
of persons with disabilities. According to the White House, the executive
order fulfills a pledge by the president to make the federal government a
model employer of people with disabilities.

The executive order establishes mechanisms such as mandatory training for
hiring managers and requires agencies to prepare strategic plans to be
approved by the Office of Personnel Management and the Office of Management
and Budget.

The order also requires OPM to develop model guidelines and assistance for
hiring people with disabilities, report to the president about progress, and
publicize results on a website as a way to promote transparency, the White
House said. Obama held a signing ceremony on the lawn of the White House,
attended by cabinet secretaries, administration officials, and advocates for
the disabled. The president said it was a honor to be with the audience on
the 20th anniversary of "one of the most comprehensive civil rights bills in
the history of this country."

He said it was the goal of his administration to advance the ADA so that not
just the letter of the law, but the spirit of the law, is applied across the
country. Signed under Bush Administration Obama said he spoke with former
President George H.W. Bush, under whose administration the ADA was signed,
just prior to the ceremony. "Today, as we commemorate what the ADA
accomplished, we celebrate who the ADA was all about. It was about the young
girl in Washington state who just wanted to see a movie in her hometown
theater, but was turned away because she had cerebral palsy," Obama said.
Separately, the president issued a proclamation declaring July 26 the
anniversary of the ADA.

The proclamation also stated that the federal government is committed to
leading by example in hiring people with disabilities, with focused efforts
to recruit, retain, and support these public servants. "In partnership with
the many federal agencies and departments with ADA responsibilities, my
administration will uphold strong and meaningful enforcement of the ADA to
eliminate discrimination in employment, housing, public services, and
community accommodations," the proclamation stated. The president also urged
all Americans to visit Disability.gov for comprehensive disability-related
information and resources.
