Julie Ann Mowad, 55 of Oakdale, Louisiana died on September 1, 2010 after a courageous and optimistic battle with breast cancer.
Julie was born on December 31, 1954, in Alexandria, Louisiana to Anthony and Mary Ann Mowad.
Julie is survived by her two sisters, Toni Mowad Cameron and her husband Don of Shreveport and Beth Mowad Strother and her husband Scotty of Baton Rouge.
She is also survived by her nephews Anthony Cameron, Will Strother, and Sam Strother, her nieces Donna Cameron, Melissa LaCour, and Jennifer Cameron, as well as, many children in her family that affectionately called her "Aunt Julie".
Julie is a graduate of Oakdale High School, the University of New Orleans, and McNeese State University where she earned her Master's Degree in Education. She was an educator and administrator in Allen Parish at Oakdale Middle and High Schools.
She was an avid sports fan and coached girls' high school softball for many years. Her friends fondly recall her passionate love for LSU sports, particularly football. She definitely bled purple and gold. Julie loved her nephews, nieces, and cousins, and although she had no children of her own, she had many children to whom she was a nurturer, role model, and loving guardian. Even during the time of her illness, her faith and optimism were always exhibited in her courageous fight with cancer.
The family would like to thank Drs. Laura Falcon, Brien Bienvenu, and Mike Rolfsen for their wise and compassionate care of Julie during her very complex illness.
Visitation will be on Thursday, September 2, 2010 at Rush Funeral Home Oakdale from 4 PM until 9:00 PM, with a rosary at 7:00 PM. On Friday, September 3, 2010, visitation will be at the funeral home at 9 AM, with mass of Christian burial at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 11:00 AM.
