BP will pay all necessary response costs and is committed to paying legitimate claims for other loss and/or damage caused by the Deepwater Horizon incident. BP takes full responsibility for responding to the Deepwater Horizon incident, and will pay appropriate compensation.
Individual and business claimants may file a claim in one of three ways:

File a claim online at www.bp.com/claims
Visit one of BP's Claims Centers.

Claim Representatives will then take the following actions:
Contact the claimant.
Obtain and verify the your identity and collect a detailed description of the claim. In most cases, claims can be handled over the phone, with you providing documentation by mail, e-mail or fax. In some instances the Claim Representative will meet with you to obtain additional information and documentation.
Inspect and photograph damaged property. A repair/replacement estimate may be prepared.
For business interruption losses, Claims Representatives will determine the amount of time the business was not operational. They will request financial records including profit and loss statements and tax returns.
If a claim is rejected, you will be notified in writing that no payment will be made, and the reason for that decision.
Interim Payments
BP believes that it is appropriate to provide interim payments to claimants who are not receiving their ordinary income or profit while cleanup is underway. This allows for additional documents to be provided by the claimant and for the claim to be fully evaluated.
Within 48 hours of receiving supporting documentation, the claim will be evaluated and you will be notified if an advance payment will be provided for your claim.
The advance payment will be up to the equivalent of one month lost income, based on the documentation you have provided to support the claim. This advance is not based on actual income and may need to be adjusted for any secondary payment if the advance exceeds actual income. If a second payment is necessary, such payment will be based on actual loss of income and the documents provided. If the event continues beyond 1 month, claimants will continue to receive any future payments electronically.
The check for the advance payment will be available at the nearest BP Claims Center, the location of which will be communicated to the you. Alternative arrangements can be made if this method of check delivery is not feasible.

This one-day training opportunity is designed for principals, district coordinators / supervisors, directors, teachers and anyone interested in services and programs for students who are deaf and hard of hearing. Mr. Kevin Williams, who helped create the Educational Interpreters Performance Assessment (EIPA), will share insights and ideas about key issues related to deaf education. Kevin will talk about language deficits, the impact that has on academics, and strategies to decrease the deficits. He will discuss language choices from speech, to cuing, to signing, resources (teachers, interpreters, materials, etc.) and take your questions and concerns about providing efficient and effective services to students who are deaf and hard of hearing.
Registration is 8:30 – 9:00. Workshop is 9:00 – 4:00 with an hour for lunch. Lunch is on your own.

Deaf on Gulf Coast (Oil Spill)
It has been reported to that there may be deaf fishermen or others on the Gulf Coast who are not getting all the information they need about the oil spill because of a lack of sign language interpreters. If you know of anyone in the affected areas who needs a sign language interpreter at any of the public meetings to inform people about the spill, please tell them to call the Advocacy Center. A deaf woman posing as a representative of the Deaf Action Center of Louisiana is selling phony raffle tickets door to door for $5 each, Executive Director David Hylan said.
He's alerted the Caddo sheriff's office of the scam and is passing along information to the agency's white collar crimes division.
After learning of the scam, Hylan sent out e-mails to members of the center's Facebook group warning of the scam and describing her as a short, white woman.
Deputies are working to determine how many tickets were sold. If you were sold or offered a ticket, call deputies at (318) 425-7781.

Bernard C. Hankel
A resident of Baton Rouge and native of New Orleans, he passed away Wednesday, April 21, 2010, at Baton Rouge Rehabilitation Hospital at age 81. He retired as a printer from LSU, where he worked for 30 years. The family will receive friends at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Deaf Church, Baton Rouge, on Saturday, April 24, starting at 8 a.m. with recitation of the rosary at 9 a.m. and service at 10 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Vincent Dufrense. Mr. Hankel will be laid to rest in Resthaven Gardens of Memory, 11817 Jefferson Highway, after the services. He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Rita B. Hankel; sister, Rose Lea, of Baton Rouge; brother, Alvin Hankel and wife Barbara, of Slidell; brother-in-law, Alvin "Yup" Neeb, of Metairie; two stepsons, Robert "RJ" Bergeron, and Jeff Bergeron and wife Alecia, both of Baton Rouge; two stepgrandchildren, Felicia Bergeron, of Baton Rouge, and Jesse Bergeron and wife Winnie, of Coconut Creek, Fla.; great-grandson, Skye J. A resident of Baton Rouge and native of New Orleans, he passed away Wednesday, April 21, 2010, at Baton Rouge Rehabilitation Hospital at age 81. He retired as a printer from LSU, where he worked for 30 years. The family will receive friends at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Deaf Church, Baton Rouge, on Saturday, April 24, starting at 8 a.m. with recitation of the rosary at 9 a.m. and service at 10 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Vincent Dufrense. Mr. Hankel will be laid to rest in Resthaven Gardens of Memory, 11817 Jefferson Highway, after the services. He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Rita B. Hankel; sister, Rose Lea, of Baton Rouge; brother, Alvin Hankel and wife Barbara, of Slidell; brother-in-law, Alvin "Yup" Neeb, of Metairie; two stepsons, Robert "RJ" Bergeron, and Jeff Bergeron and wife Alecia, both of Baton Rouge; two stepgrandchildren, Felicia Bergeron, of Baton Rouge, and Jesse Bergeron and wife Winnie, of Coconut Creek, Fla.; great-grandson, Skye J. Bergeron; and numerous nieces and nephews. MCAD Crawfish Fest and Volleyball Tournament
Mississippi Coast Association of the Deaf will have 11th Annual Crawfish Fest and Volleyball Tournament at the Deaf Center Pavilion in Gulfport, Mississippi on Saturday, May 8th! You all are welcome to join and have fun!! Please spread the words to your friends and families! It will start at 10 a.m. until ?? Admission: All ages - $3.00. (not included Volleyball team – Pay separate! The Team pay if they want to play, cost $70.00 per team with 6 players and 1 sub) And Food will be sold separately!
