World Association of Sign Language Interpreters

Greetings,
As you know, I have been heavily involved with the World Association of Sign Language Interpreters (WASLI).  In fact, I am currently serving on the Board as Treasurer.
Even though the idea of WASLI was conceived in 1975, it took until 2005 to get it officially off the ground.  This was due in many ways to the support of RID members who had the vision to know we needed to position ourselves on the international stage.  We have a great deal to offer, and much to learn!
I now ask you to join WASLI as an Individual Member.  The cost to Americans is $50 a year.
We so often ask what benefits membership will bring to us.  In this case, it is the benefits you can bring to WASLI and the developing world.  Your dollars will help us to continue to support the development of National Associations of Sign Language Interpreters across the globe.
We currently have National Members from across Europe, Australia, Japan, and Canada.  We are working with Brazil, Botswana, Columbia, Croatia, Ethiopia, Fiji, Kenya, Mauritius, Mexico, Nepal, Uganda, and the Arab states, to name a few.
We plan to upgrade the website, identify certification guidelines and parameters, and identify education and training guidelines and parameters that can work in countries that have had no certification and little or no access to formal training.
To continue this work, we need American dollars.  We have the economic potential, despite the current climate, to make real sustainable change in the world by building national capacity at the ground level.
Please join!

Send your checks to WASLI
10632 Ferncliff Avenue

And check out the website at www.wasli.org.

Thanks,
Your Colleague
Daniel Burch
