The Louisiana Rehabilitative Council is looking for new members.

The Louisiana Rehabilitative Council has membership openings in these categories:

1) Business, Industry, and Labor
2) Current or former VR (Vocational Rehabilitation) applicants and
3) Disability Advocacy Groups representing individuals with disabilities.

The Louisiana Rehabilitation Council listens to the concerns of those with disability issues, reviews, analyzes and evaluates the state rehabilitation program, collaborates with other state agencies, organizations and consumer groups.

Role of the Louisiana Rehabilitation council

The LRC consults with and advises LRS on the performance of its responsibilities under Title I of the Rehabilitation Act, particularly in the areas related to eligibility, extent, and scope of services provided. The Council also conducts a review and analysis of the effectiveness of, and consumer satisfaction with, rehabilitation services. An annual report is prepared to reflect the Council's work and the Council's perception of the status of the rehabilitation program in Louisiana.

Recommendations for appointment by the Governor to the LRC are obtained from representatives of a broad range of individuals, including persons with disabilities; service providers, disability advocates; and representatives from business, industry, and labor. A majority of the membership of LRC must be individuals with disabilities.

Who Composes the Membership of the LRC?
One representative of the State Independent Living Council.
One representative of a parent training information center.
One representative of the Client Assistance Program (CAP).
One representative of the Community Rehabilitation Program.
Four representatives of Business/Industry/Labor.

Twelve representatives of

Individuals with physical, cognitive sensory and mental disabilities.
Representatives of individuals with disabilities that have difficulty representing themselves.
Current or former applicants for, or recipients of, vocational rehabilitation services.
One representative of the State Workforce Investment Board.
One representative of the State Department of Education.
One representative of 121 Project.
One representative that is a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor.
The Director of the State Designated Unit.

History of the Louisiana Rehabilitation Council

The Louisiana Rehabilitation Council was established in compliance with federal regulations governing the Rehabilitation Act (P.L. 102-569). The LRC works with Louisiana Rehabilitation Services (LRS) to ensure the involvement of individuals with disabilities in the development and delivery of vocational rehabilitation services to Louisianans with disabilities.
